As a rule of thumb, I will never show you materials that I have not used with my students mysefl, and
believe me, this stuff is just awesome!

Spanish Tenses: The Future Perfect

THE FUTURE PERFECT - EL FUTURO PERFECTO (o FUTURO ANTERIOR)

The situations in which you use this tense are the same both in English as in Spanish. It is used to show that an action to indicate an action that will have taken place before another action or point in the future.

This tense, EL FUTURO PERFECTO (also known as Futuro Anterior) , is used in sentences such as…

In two hours you will havefinished. the test.	En dos horas habrásterminado el exámen.
When you get here I will haveeaten.	Cuando llegues yo ya habrécomido.
By the time you talk to her, shewill have found out the truth..	Cuando hables con ella, yahabrá averiguado la verdad.
By the time we get there, the movie will have already started.	Cuando lleguemos allí, la película ya habrá comenzado.
Will they have left by 5?	¿Habrán partido para las 5?

How to form EL FUTURO PERFECTO in 3 easy steps

1 Take the verb in the infinitive form…				trabajar	comer	partir

2 Drop the infinitive ending…				trabaj-	com-	part-

3 Add the verb HABER in the future and past participle ending…
Yo	habré	I will have		trabajado	comido	partido
Tú	habrás	You will have (infml)		trabajado	comido	partido
Usted Él – Ella	habrá	You will have (fml) s-he will have		trabajado	comido	partido
Nosotros	habremos	We will have		trabajado	comido	partido

Spanish Tenses: The Future Progressive

THE FUTURE PROGRESSIVE – EL FUTURO PROGRESIVO O CONTINUOno

The situations in which you use this tense are the same both in English as in Spanish. Consequently, we are going to see some examples and we are not going to concentrate on when or when not to use this tense as you will do it intuitively if you native language is English.

This tense, EL PRESENTE PROGRESIVO, is used when you say sentences such as…

I will be working in a big office.	Estaré trabajando en una oficina grande.
They will be traveling around the world in two weeks.	Ellos estarán viajando alrededor del mundo en dos semanas.
We will be selling thousands of products.	Estaremos vendiendo cientos de productos.
He will be studying in his office for one hour.	Él estrá estudiando en su oficina por una hora.
She is leaving in two days.	Estará partiendo en dos días.

How to form EL FUTURO PROGRESIVO in 3 easy steps

1 Take the verb in the infinitive form…				trabajar	comer	partir

2 Drop the infinitive ending…				trabaj-	com-	part-

3 Add the verb ESTAR (to be)� in the future form and� the present progressive ending…
Yo	estaré	I will be		trabajando	comiendo	partiendo
Tú	estarás	You will be (informal)		trabajando	comiendo	partiendo
Usted Él – Ella	estará	You will be (formal) s-he will be		trabajando	comiendo	partiendo
Nosotros	estaremos	We will be		trabajando	comiendo	partiendo

THE FUTURE – EL FUTURO

There are two basic forms of the future in Spanish, and both can be used in any situation.

This tense, EL FUTURO, is used when you say sentences such as…

I will stay at home.	Permaneceré en casa.
You will work here.	Tú trabajarás aquí.
She is going to need my help.	Necesitará mi ayuda.
We are going to eat out .	Cenaremos afuera.
He will talk to you soon.	El hablará contigo mañana.

How to formEL FUTURO in 2 easy steps

The future is one of the simplest Spanish tenses. The three infinitive form add the same endings.

1 Take the verb in the infinitive form…		trabajar	comer	partir

2 Add the present form ending…		(this ending varies depending on the person)
	Yo	trabajaré	comeré	partiré
	Tú	trabajarás	comerás	partirás
	Usted – Él – Ella	trabajará	comerá	partirá
	Nosotros	trabajaremos	comeremos	partiremos
	Vosotros	trabajaréis	comeréis	partiréis
	Ustedes	trabajarán	comerán	partirán
	Ellos	trabajarán	comerán	partirán

THE FUTURE – EL FUTURO (2)

There are two basic forms of the future in Spanish, and both can be used in any situation.

This tense, EL FUTURO, is used when you say sentences such as…

I will stay at home.	Voy a permanecer en casa.
You will work here.	Tú vas a trabajar aquí.
She is going to need my help.	Ella va a necesitar mi ayuda.
We are going to eat out .	Vamos a cenar afuera.
He will talk to you soon.	El va a hablar contigo mañana.

How to form EL FUTURO in 2 easy steps

This is the simplest form of the future. You only conjugate (IR) a and then add the verb in the infinitive form.

1 Take the verb IR A

2 Conjugate it in the different persons and add the infinitive form of the verb. (this ending varies depending on the person)
Yo	voy a	trabajar	comer	partir
Tú	vas a	trabajar	comer	partir
Usted – Él – Ella	va a	trabajar	come	partir
Nosotros	vamos a	trabajar	comer	partir
Vosotros	váis a	trabajar	comer	partir
Ustedes	van a	trabajar	comer	partir
Ellos	van a	trabajar	comer	partir

THE PLUPERFECT – EL PLUSCUAMPERFECTO

The situations in which you use this tense are the same both in English as in Spanish. It is used to show that an action in the past took place before another action in the past.

This tense, EL PASADO PROGRESIVO, is used when you say sentences such as…

I had finished. (when you arrived)	Había terminado.
They had studied (before the test)	Ellos habían estudiado(antes del exámen)
We had eaten (before we came)	Habíamos comido (antes de venir)
The movie had already started(when we entered the cinema)	La película habíacomenzado (cuando entramos al cine)
She had left (by the time we got there)	Ella había partido (cuando llegamos allí)

How to form EL PLUSCUAMPERFECTO in 3 easy steps

1 Take the verb in the infinitive form…				trabajar	comer	partir

2 Drop the infinitive ending…				trabaj-	com-	part-

3 Add the verb HABER in the past and past participle ending…

Tú	habías	You had (informal)		trabajado	comido	partido

Spanish Tenses: The Past (Imperfect)

THE IMPERFECT - EL PASADO (PRETÉRITO IMPERFECTO)

We use this tense when we talk about GENERAL / REPEATED ACTIONS OR SITUATIONS IN THE PAST

This tense, EL PASADO is used when you say sentences such as..

When I was a kid, I lived with my parents.	Cuando era un niño, vivía con mis padres
As you can see here, we are not talking about a specific event but rather a general or repeated event in the past.
More Examples:
She had lots of problems when she was a teenager.	Tenía muchos problemas cuando era adolescente
I used to study a lot when I was your age.	Estudiaba mucho cuando tenía tu edad.
We had all the time in the world back then..	Teníamos todo el tiempo del mundo en ese entonces.
He would travel to Miami every week.	Él viajaba a Miami cada semana.
Your granny came home every day when you were little.	Tu abuela venía a casa todos los días cuando eras pequeña.
Juan used to crash all the time.	Juan chocaba todo el tiempo.

We also use this tense when provide BACKGROUND INFORMATION about another event that took place.

When I was reading, the telephone rang.	Cuando leía, sonó el teléfono.
I heard the news while I was driving my car.	Oí la noticia mientras conducía mi auto.

How to form EL PASADO (PRETÉRITO IMPERFECTO) in 3 easy steps

1 Take the verb in the infinitive form…			trabajar	comer	partir

2 Drop the infinitive ending…			trabaj-	com-	part-

3 Add the following endings…
